“Photos which fail to find their analogue materialized expression disappear from the social presence just like the spoken but not documented word of earlier generations. With this dramatic loss of memory, the digital photo and the spoken language are similar - easily exporting in the moment of communication between people - nothing more.”

Andreas Schelke

It was a moment of vivid realization, eagerly waiting and watching as my very first Polaroid faded into existence in the shaded, supernatural gas station hidden among the desert of New Mexico. Since then, the captivating nature of Polaroid photography has been a personal staple of my photographic exploration since the modern revival of the abandoned medium. The unique shape of the human body remains especially captivating.

Not discounting the “magic” of the slow, yet spectacular revel of the image in real time, the true enjoyment stems from the the almost human-like nature of the film. A medium that, on its own, creates challenges, demanding to be conquered via detailed analyzation of the scene, and an openness to chance. A demand to constantly switch between action and reaction, until perfection can be forced into its small, square frame.
